People, Culture and Environment

For REF2029 the former ‘Environment’ element will be expanded to ‘People, Culture and Environment’ (PCE). There will be a greater emphasis on this element within the REF2029 submission, and changes to the way in which it is assessed.  Research England has commissioned a substantial piece of work to establish and pilot indicators which may be used to inform the PCE assessment.  See the REF website: PCE for current information.

For REF2021 the Environment element was assessed via Environment statements. These are available on the REF2021 Environment submissions database.
